In 2023, Brisbane Convoy for Kids reached new heights, bringing together over 900 trucks in an awe-inspiring display of community support. The event, which began with a heartfelt request from truck driver David Gaudron to ‘Truckin Life,’ has become an annual tradition that raises millions of dollars for children’s charities.
The Convoy for Kids was born from the dedication of a committee including David Gaudron, Robin Hunter, Kevin Prescott, John Moran, and Senior Constable Mark Yabsley. Their vision has propelled the event to extraordinary heights, contributing over $1 million to children in South East Queensland over the last eleven years.
The convoy spanned from Willawong to Redcliffe, drawing thousands of supporters who lined the highways, service station lots, coffee shops, and grocery stores. Homemade signs, scorecards, treats, cold waters, and sunscreen turned the event into a festive celebration, where truck drivers were treated like celebrities.
We took a moment to ask some of our drivers about their experience, and the responses were heartwarming. Michael, one of our participants, shared, “This feels like a break from being just a truck driver. I feel good inside and really appreciated in events such as these.”
Kelly-Mae, our Customer Service Team Leader and a first-time participant, described the experience as life-altering. Her first ride in a big rig transformed her perspective, making her realize just how special it is to be part of such an event. Inspired by the convoy, Kelly-Mae now plans to obtain her license and join the prime movers next year.
Team Transport is immensely proud to have attended every year since 2017, with the exception of 2019 due to the pandemic. We wholeheartedly pledge to continue participating in this heartwarming event, and our goal is to grow the number of our personnel in attendance each year.
As the 2023 Convoy for Kids came to an end, we eagerly await the announcement of the amount raised, knowing that it will bring immeasurable support to children in need. We wholeheartedly congratulate the BC4K team on yet another exceptional event. It’s proof that when a community comes together, incredible things can happen. We can’t wait to see what next year’s convoy will bring and the positive impact it will have on our community.
In the end, Brisbane Convoy for Kids is more than just a convoy; it’s a testament to the power of unity, love, and making dreams come true. This event continues to inspire and uplift all those who participate, reminding us that when we join hands for a worthy cause, magic can happen on the open road.
